Its not easy to write a blog in english since my mother tounge is Malay. But i have to try it even 'broken english' will be. For the first entry in english , i want to share how was my study from my early childhood till now especially in learning english. I hope the readers here wont demotivate my ability in writing english my way...hihi.
My first schooling session was at 1980. in standard 1. My first school was sekolah Kebangsaan Hutan Melintang Perak and it near to my house. Most of the student studied here was malay plus 3 to 5 indians. We talked malay all the time except when in english class. Even the teacher taught english, 95% the class session time was in Malay..
The teacher (cikgu radin) kept on teaching us english even one person couldnt talk in english. She brought a rattan just to make sure all the students pay attention while in her class, it still didnt improve our english . What we knew was only english that being used in our common language like 'jalan slow-slow', gostan, hello, busylah, try test and yes/no.
English Vacabulary and grammar are the things that very hard for us to knew it. We never talk in english in all our communications. What we had try that time was put a english 'slang' in malay sentence only. hihi.. How cool the sound of english slang in malay word?
We never read english newspaper, we always seen that newspaper while having our breakfirst of nasi lemak (wrapped with english newspaper) that bought from makcik stall.
My father tried teaching me an english word and the first word he tried to ask me to say was BUS. Once he said BUS, my mother and I was laughing. My mother said 'B.U.S is not BUS, B.U.S sound is BAS'. Since then, i never heard my father taught me any english word ..hihi
I never get passing mark for this english paper. I had been trying to look the answer from my friend that sitting beside me. Even i can see the answer, and i followed where his mark the answer, but still my friend and I failed in the examination. Most of the answer were put on closed eye (tembak aje) , and only 1 or 2 were right , the rest gone to the river.
Penilaian Darjah 5 was a big exam for primary school that time. It like UPSR for time being. The different between both (PD5 and UPSR) is PD5 happen on standard 5 while UPSR in standard 6. In that exam, I scored for 3A,2B and 1C where english paper was C as usual. Even I couldnt get 5 A, but I was announce as a best student from 25 that sat for that exam. My father was really happy with me and he said to me ' I will send you to the best school in Ipoh (Capital City of Perak state) by BUS'. hihihi.
Least but not last, this is my 1st session in learning english in primary school. I will continue my story while at secondary school in Ipoh in the next entry. Hope my english still can be understood and the story of mine here is something good for killing your time for the time being.
See you soon.
